MCBA Awards Scholarships to Five High School Scholars
Alan Orantes Forst, Scholarship Committee Chair
The Martin County Bar Association Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce that it has awarded scholarships totaling $3,000 to five outstanding high school seniors. All of the recipients met the award requirements: they were graduating seniors with a GPA or 3.00 or higher, plus they submitted an essay of 500-1000 words (a) detailing why he/she may pursue a career in one of the following fields: lawyer; paralegal/legal secretary; police officer; forensic scientist; private detective; clinical social worker; court reporter; social service youth counseling; parole or probation officer; or other law-related field, AND (b) discussing either Morse v. Frederick (the "Bong Hits 4 Jesus" case) or District of Columbia v. Heller (the "DC guns" case). The discussion of the case included a summary of the parties’ arguments, the Supreme Court’s decision, and the applicant’s analysis of that decision.
Assistant State Attorney Nita Denton presented the scholarship to South Fork student Chelsey Castellano. Shaun Plymale next provided the scholarship to Jesse Hornberger at Martin County High School. Beatrice Espady and Anthony Kakoyannis were the deserving recipients of the scholarships presented by Nina Ferraro at Jensen Beach High School. Finally, Gloretta Hall was pleased to present Victoria DiNardo with her scholarship at the Clark Advanced Learning Center ceremonies. Congratulations to all of the award recipients, and good luck in college!
